Sage's Non-Profit Technology Impact Report

Sage’s 2024 non-profit technology impact report explores how non-profit finance leaders are using technology to streamline operations and refocus their efforts on mission-critical goals.

Nearly 300 non-profit leaders responded to Sage's survey. The majority (90%) of these leaders represent small to mid-size nonprofit organizations in the United States with revenue of less than $24M annually. 

Survey respondents represented a variety of non-profit causes, including human services, education, community improvement, arts and culture, and healthcare.

Here are three key takeaways from the survey.

Revenue

44% of respondents reported an increase in revenue, with an additional 29% reporting flat revenue. Human services, arts and culture, and education organizations more frequently reported an increase in revenue over other non-profit categories. Arts and culture organizations are new to that list this year, indicating a recovery in an area that was hard-hit during the pandemic.

Funding Sources

29% of non-profit finance leaders reported the biggest increase in funding this year came from government funding, followed by foundation grants. Sage's survey respondents reported the most significant decrease in funding came from individual donors.

Technology Used

The most used pieces of technology were financial management and accounting software (85%), a donor management or CRM solution (64%), and a budgeting and planning tool (28%).
